Chemical Engineer Job Description
This position is to provide technical leadership, innovation, and guidance in the planning, design, configuration, construction, commissioning, operations, and maintenance of gas and chemical (G&C) delivery equipment & systems, Gas Life Safety System (GLSS), & Pump & Abatement (P&A) units.
Provide technical direction to R&D design engineers throughout the project conceptual design phase, interface with site user groups, other engineering disciplines, local municipalities and/or utilities, trade contractors, and other project stakeholders as required.
Evaluate system capacities and capabilities and make improvement recommendations, as well as review and approve building construction, fit-up and tool hook-up designs.
Develops, maintains, and updates Lam's technical specifications for facilities process equipment and systems.
Knowledgeable expert to provide engineering solutions to Product Groups, Project Management team and Operations team for new process tool gas and chemicals, from safe delivery to effective post process gas and chemical abatement.
Develops design engineering criteria and performance specifications required to meet unique process equipment and facility systems operating requirements and building safety codes.
Leads the discipline specific systems operations and maintenance activities to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Responsibilities Responsible for site facility chemical infrastructure design and operations and owns results associated with their decisions. Core areas of responsibility include (but not limited to): Specialty and bulk gas distribution systems Bulk chemical distribution and small liquid organic precursor point of use dispense systems. Ultra Pure Water (UPW) and integrity of supply quality All waste treatment systems including waste collection lift station and pumping systems. Responsible for engineering of facilities process systems Responsible for monitoring and reporting quality of high purity gas and water systems Develops, maintains, and updates Lam's technical specifications for facilities process equipment and systems. Knowledgeable expert to provide engineering solutions to Project Management team and Operations team for new process tool gas and chemicals, from safe delivery to effective post process gas and chemical abatement. Leads technical review of projects concerning process systems, including tool installation and infrastructure projects to ensure proper design and adherence to Lam requirements.
Qualifications BS in Chemical engineering, with a minimum of 8 years of industrial design experience (Professional engineering license a plus) Five (5) years of work experience in the semiconductor industry (Wafer fab), including gas abatement and wastewater treatment systems, industrial gas and chemical systems design. Working knowledge of gas distribution system and PLC based controls systems. Must possess advanced troubleshooting skills which support core responsibilities. Strong organizational and communication skills, and ability to effectively work with internal technical staff.
Knowledge of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams and Sequence of Operations for process systems. Strong analytical skills and knowledge of SPC, 8D, DMAIC, FMEA and other design tools. Experience leading operating engineers and/or technicians in a facility or manufacturing setting. Experience writing Standard Operating Procedures for process systems. Strong Excel spreadsheet skills Ability to work off hours and/or weekends if needed to support project deliverables on time while ensuring highest quality standards.
