Job Details

The Field Service Technician is primarily responsible for the installation, configuration and commissioning of Woodward Control systems and software for reciprocating engines.
The technician will be involved primarily with air fuel ratio, speed, ignition and generator controls.
Performance of duties requires selection and application of standard techniques, procedures, and technical criteria, along with the ability to work in multi-disciplinary activities.
Good verbal and communication skills will be required to effectively communicate with customers, as required.

Job description
Install, configure, and commission Woodward control systems and software for industrial steam and gas turbines at the customer's location.

Essential Functions

Study drawings, schematics, manuals, software, and other pertinent information to determine the best solution and proper tools for system setup or problem resolution. Consult with customers, field service dispatchers, and peers to define the scope of work for projects. Use Woodward hardware and software to analyze malfunctions, configure systems, and tune/adjust dynamics. Instruct customers in operating and servicing Woodward equipment and associated scope of supply. Consult with engineering to resolve problems in order to meet and exceed customer expectations. Prepare service/warranty reports and other relevant job-related paperwork for customers and internal distribution in a timely manner. Escalate product improvement opportunities and customer feedback to engineering and management. Ensure that open items remaining after returning from job site are properly communicated or handed-over to the appropriate parties. Work with field service dispatchers to define timeline and travel logistics. Periodically perform corrective and preventative maintenance of installed equipment. While in the office between field service assignments:
* Provide technical support to customers.
* Assist engineers with projects.
* Perform product testing.
* Attend meetings with engineering, sales, and customers.

Physical Demands

Travel required, must be able to travel on short notice.
Irregular work hours and extra hours expected.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years or 10+ years' experience in the field is preferable
Strong background in engines and engine management systems; automation and process controls and experience working with rotating equipment (turbines, compressors, and generators); or experience in the petrochemical and power generation industries (natural gas plants, LNG facilities, and gas turbines such as Siemens, Baker Hughes, Mitsubishi, Dresser-Rand)
Proficient in working with analog and digital controls, also with PLCs (ABB, Siemens, Allen Bradley), HMIs, SCADA, DCS systems, and instrumentation installation and calibration.
Strong experience with the installation, troubleshooting, configuration, and commissioning of control systems
Experience or familiarity with Woodward control systems is a plus
Knowledge of MS Office: Excel, Word, Power Point.
Strong desire for continued growth and learning.
Should be able to travel domestic and international
Should be available and reachable at any hour, when on call (rotation with other engineering staff for call-out services is expected).
Must be able to hold TWIC Card for access to various customer sites.
Will work from our Buena Park, CA office.
Travel outside of Southern California expected.
Travel estimated to be 50-75%
Able to work at customer's site for prolonged period of time.
(Days onsite vary.
Typically 1-5 days.

Work Hours
Monday to Friday 8am - 5pm regular schedule when working at the office, however extended and irregular working hours when working in the field.
Should be able to work weekends and holidays when required.
