Job SummaryThe Finance Director contributes to the organization's mission by overseeing all accounting and financial operations of the Center. They direct those financial activities for organization with a budget of $1.8M in grants and $30k in donations by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.
Essential DutiesOverall supervision and oversight of the financial operations including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and segregation of duties designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the organization's financial results, and ensure that financial reports comply with generally accepted accounting principles.Establishes, or recommends to management, major corporate economic strategies, objectives, and policies for company.Recommends modifications to existing corporate programs.Prepares reports which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.Responsible for preparation of budgets, reviews budget proposals, and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification.Manages all accounts, subsidiary ledgers and reporting system to ensure compliance with appropriate general accepted accounting principles and regulatory requirements (GAAP & GAGAS).Advises management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.Provides management with timely reviews of organization's financial status and progress in its various programs and activities, including supporting documentation for donors and fundraisers. This includes reporting to the Board of Directors.Directs determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets.Advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax code revisions.Arranges for audits of company's accounts.Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies.Establishes relations with banks and other financial institutions and oversees all bank account balances to ensure that balances are under the FDIC limit when possible; recommend new bank accounts when necessary to limit financial risk.Responsible for accounts receivable and accounts payable duties.Maintains the chart of accounts, reconciling and making appropriate journal entries for all checking, money market and investment accounts.Reconciling organization's salary expense to budget on a monthly basis.Preparing all work papers and schedules for the Form 990.Manage vendor contracts, audit vendor invoices and transact all vendor payments, including 1099's and W-9's.File annual report with the State of Ohio for charitable license.Responsible for payroll, including auditing timecards, processing bi-weekly, completing BWC True-ups, balance employee payroll deductions, keeping track of PTO and ensuring paid hours all accounted for in the budget.Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience with accounting, grant management and supervising staff. Preferred experience working with non-profit Board of Directors.
