The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and directing the activities of the Office of Counsel, providing legal advice on a wide range of matters including contracts, construction, bond issuances, asset management, investments, human resources, grant programs, and corporate governance.
The General Counsel will also be involved in supervising litigation, coordinating with the Attorney General's Office, and managing outside counsel.
Additionally, the role involves participating in the development and implementation of asset management systems, providing legal advice on labor matters, and preparing legislation.
The General Counsel will be expected to maintain current knowledge of statutory and regulatory changes and undertake special assignments as directed.
Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company must have a Juris Doctor and be admitted and in good standing to practice law in New York State, with a minimum of 15 years' relevant legal experience.
The role requires a candidate with a strong management background, including at least 10 years of experience in supervising and evaluating professional staff.
Essential skills include demonstrated management abilities, excellent communication, analytical, and conceptual skills, and proficiency in PC applications.
