Job Summary
Under the direction of the Department Chair of History and American Studies, coordinates an office of approximately 81 academic employees, which includes for History 22.5 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 42 Lecturers, and 11 Instructional Student Assistants and 2.5 tenured/tenure-track, 3 lecturers: History ftes of 720.4 with a BA (419), minors (19), and an MA (44). American Studies ftes of 194.9 with a BA (59), minors (16). Serves as the primary resource for information regarding Department policy and practice for faculty, students, and staff providing continuity in policy and procedure; maintains Department budget and records; and completes faculty hiring.
Key Responsibilities
Scheduling - Assists chair in gathering information each semester as to faculty course and time preferences and drafting preliminary class schedule.
Understand, disseminate, and implement procedures, policies, and practices - Provides continuity of departmental policies, procedures, and practices by providing information about College and University policies and procedures.
Graduate Coordinator - Provides clerical assistance for Graduate Program. Checks student records processes changes and advancements to candidacy.
Personnel - Create systems to expedite all personnel-related functions for the History and American Studies Department—hiring, evaluation, assigned time, etc.
Departmental record-keeping, records processing, reports, and written material preparation - Edit and proof all needed reports, memoranda, and correspondence to be sent forward through department or college. Edit and proof all Chair's correspondence.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to carry out professionally complex assignments and independently plan and develop sound approaches and solutions to meet departments program, faculty, and student needs. Knowledge of budget and fiscal resources, allocations, and accountability. Manage, plan, and execute various projects with specific deadlines. Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with program faculty, academic departments, the dean's office, and a variety of offices and individuals on and off campus. Working knowledge of Windows, Word, Word Press, Adobe Acrobat Pro, email, spreadsheet, databases, Ad Astra, and CMS.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
• Equivalent to five years of administrative support experience required.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Academic department experience preferred.
Physical Summary
Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Compensation
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
CSU Classification Salary Range:The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,058 - $6,653 per month.

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.
Duration of Appointment
