Job Overview: As a Human Resources Generalist, you will play a crucial role in managing all HR processes, ensuring they are executed efficiently and in compliance with relevant regulations. Your responsibilities will encompass recruitment, onboarding, compensation, employee relations, performance management, and policy implementation.

The HR Generalist will support the Human Resources department in various functions to create an inclusive, efficient, and compliant workplace. This role focuses on implementing HR initiatives related to recruitment, employee relations, classification and compensation, performance management, training, and development. The HR Generalist will work closely with university staff and faculty, ensuring that HR practices align with university policies and support the institution's mission of providing a positive and productive work environment for all employees.
Key Responsibilities:
Recruitment and Onboarding:
Collaborate with department managers to identify staffing needs, draft job descriptions, and post job openings.Screen candidates, coordinate interviews, and facilitate the hiring process to ensure a positive candidate experience.Conduct new employee orientations, ensuring a smooth onboarding process and that new hires understand university policies and resources Classification and Compensation: Classifying positionsData entry for People Admin actions (monetary and non-monetary) SHRA to EHRA conversion FLSA projects Benefits Administration: Assist employees with benefit inquiries and ensure they are aware of university-provided benefits.Coordinate open enrollment activities and ensure compliance with university and legal standards for benefits.Partner with the Benefits team to support benefits processing, updates, and cross-training for other benefit offerings as needed. Performance Management: Support the administration of the performance review process, offering guidance to managers and employees.Assist in creating development plans, identifying training needs, and coordinating professional development activities. Compliance: Ensure HR activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including Equal Employment Opportunity ( EEO ), Family and Medical Leave Act ( FMLA ), and other employment laws.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and regulations, ensuring the university's adherence to these standards. Training and Development: Assist in the design, development, and delivery of training programs for university staff, fostering a continuous learning environment.Facilitate sessions on compliance, soft skills, and HR best practices. Records Management: Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in compliance with university policies and legal requirements.Utilize HRIS systems to track and analyze HR data, ensuring timely reporting and effective data management. Special Projects:
Participate in and lead special HR projects, process improvement initiatives, and university-wide HR programs as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred. Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Preferred Certifications: PHR / SPHR , SHRM -CP/ SHRM - SCP , or other relevant HR certifications. Work Environment:
This position typically operates in an office setting with minimal physical demands. Some travel across the university campus may be required for meetings, training sessions, or other HR activities. Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Human Resources exists to provide human resources functionality for all employees of Winston-Salem State University. The unit will assist the Office of Academic Affairs in recruitment of EPA faculty positions as well as other administrative officers, in the recruitment of administrative positions. Additionally, Human Resources provides classification, recruitment, and candidate selection guidance and processing for SPA positions. The department has responsibility for administering all benefit programs, human relation administration, employee recognition and reward programs, salary administration, leave administration, position management, unemployment compensation, workers compensation, staff development training, as well as facilitation of both the American with Disabilities Act and Family Medical Leave Act.

Graduation from a four-year college or university; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
