Minimum 1+ years special education experience required. Job Description: Special Education Teacher Qualifications: Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education or a related field from an accredited institution. Licensure and Certification: Valid Michigan Special Education Teacher Certification for the appropriate grade level and disability area (e.g., K-12, Learning Disabilities, Emotional Impairment, Cognitive Impairment). Must hold a Michigan Department of Education (MDE) certification in Special Education. Michigan State Police background check and FBI fingerprinting required. CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Experience: Prior experience in special education or working with students with disabilities is preferred. Experience in developing and implementing IEPs is highly beneficial. Position Overview: Were looking for a passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team and make a real difference in the lives of students with unique learning needs. The right person will be dedicated to providing personalized support, helping students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Youll work closely with other teachers, school staff, and families to create a positive, inclusive classroom where every student has the opportunity to thrive. Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, ensuring that goals and objectives are meaningful and aligned with state and district standards. Provide direct instruction to students in one-on-one, small group, and whole group settings, adapting lessons to meet students' individual learning needs. Modify the general education curriculum to accommodate students with disabilities, ensuring accessibility and appropriate support. Monitor and assess students academic progress, behavioral development, and social-emotional needs, making adjustments to instruction and interventions as needed. Collaborate with general education teachers, school counselors, administrators, and other support staff to create a holistic, integrated educational experience for students. Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and school-wide team meetings to communicate student progress and work toward solutions for any challenges. Maintain up-to-date and accurate student records, including IEP documentation, progress reports, and behavioral plans. Implement classroom management strategies to promote positive behavior and a safe, inclusive learning environment. Support students' social and emotional development by using effective teaching strategies and resources, as well as encouraging self-advocacy and independence. Stay informed of the latest research, best practices, and state requirements in special education, incorporating new strategies into teaching practices. Skills and Competencies: In-depth knowledge of special education laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Michigan state regulations. Strong ability to differentiate instruction for students with various disabilities and learning styles. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and school staff. Strong classroom management skills, with a focus on promoting positive behavior and a supportive learning environment. Ability to use educational technology and resources to enhance instruction and student engagement. Problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing student needs and classroom dynamics. Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for working with students with special needs.
