The Director, Inclusion & Diversity External Engagement, plays a key role in ensuring that we realize this ambition. This role will be responsible for identifying, cultivating and managing strategic relationships with external organizations, aligned with our I&D strategy and intended impact. This role will leverage data and insights to inform and enhance strategies and foster a culture of inclusion through innovative talent and sourcing approaches. The Director, External Engagement requires relationship management skills, strategic thinking, the ability to negotiate and manage collaborations that benefit the organization.
As a thought leader, change agent and trusted partner, this role will collaborate across the stakeholder groups on inclusive practices and ensuring our strategies are aligned to our HR and corporate strategy. The Director, External Engagement is a key leader in driving strategic initiatives that leverage partnerships to enhance business growth and talent engagement in service of our Inclusion and Diversity strategy.
This role reports to the Global Head of Inclusion & Diversity (I&D) and is based in Foster City, California.
Key Responsibilities: External Engagement Strategy: Lead the development and execution of the company's external I&D engagement strategy, ensuring alignment with our broader I&D goals.Sponsorships and Partnerships: Set and implement a strategy for sponsorships and partnerships with external organizations to advance the company's I&D initiatives.Contract Negotiation and Vendor Management: Lead efforts to negotiate contracts with external vendors, service providers, and partners to secure optimal pricing and terms for the company.Data-Driven Strategy Evolution: Accountable for tracking I&D metrics and using insights to adapt and evolve the external engagement strategy for maximum impact.Sourcing Strategy and Partnerships: Lead the I&D sourcing strategy and manage partnerships with external organizations such as ALPFA, NSN, and NBMBAA to expand talent pipelines. Effectively measure ROI and use insights to inform talent strategy.Talent Insights: Collaborate with the insights team to identify talent trends and develop strategies to address gaps and opportunities in the company's workforce.Expertise: Leadership: 12 years of relevant work experience, working with cross-functional teams, external partners, and senior leadership to drive talent strategies and I&D outcomes.Industry Experience: Pharmaceutical or biotech industry required.Proven ability to influence, lead external partnerships, and manage complex projects.Knowledge of inclusive talent practices and a passion for fostering an equitable workplace culture.Analytical Expertise: Utilization of data-driven approaches to develop insights, identify opportunities, and inform decision making.Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrated experience in engaging with and communicating to a wide range of stakeholders on I&D topics, including senior executives.Exceptionally skilled in negotiating contracts and managing external vendor relationships.Leadership Capabilities: Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence across a matrixed, global organization, adapting quickly to change and operating in ambiguous environments.Ability to develop, communicate, and execute a comprehensive external engagement strategy.Ability to leverage data and insights to anticipate future trends and design long-term strategies to meet emerging I&D needs.Strong experience in fostering relationships, seeking diverse perspectives, experiences, and insight. The salary range for this position is: $205,700.00 - $266,200.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
