Under general supervision of the industrial electrician supervisor responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and repairing complex industrial electrical equipment and systems Works in the field, diagnosing and resolving complex electrical problems on a wide variety of rotating, moving and heavy equipment including high voltage distribution centers, motor controllers, pump, generators, presses, lighting systems and underground cable.
Troubleshoots, repairs, and installs variable frequency drives (VCD's) Performs diagnostic work up to the programmable logic controllers (PLC) and the digital control systems (DCS) lode.
Performs predictive and preventive maintenance in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations on electrical equipment Creates work orders, requisitions equipment and parts.
Performs work in safe manner according to all regulations; participates in safety training and reports unsafe conditions.

This position works in the DPWES Wastewater Treatment Division, located at 9399 Richmond Hwy.
Lorton, Virginia.
Note: Position may be underfilled as an Industrial Electrician I; the underfill requirements are stated below in the Employment Standards section.
Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the following:
graduation from high school, or a GED issued by a state department of education or equivalent; successful completion of an approved electrician's apprentice program and four years of experience as an industrial electrician.
UNDERFILL REQUIREMENTS:
This vacancy may be underfilled at the level of Industrial Electrician I (Grade S18, $50,839 - $84,732).
The employment standards for the Industrial Electrician I are any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from high school, or a GED issued by a state department of education or equivalent; successful completion of an approved electrician's apprentice program; plus two years of experience as an industrial electrician.
Underfill candidates must be able to meet the minimum qualifications of the Industrial Electrician II within two years of the job announcement's closing date.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: A valid driver's license.
A valid Commonwealth of Virginia Journeyman Electrician's license.
Confined Space Certification within 12 months of hire.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driving record check, and a medical examination to the satisfaction of the employer prior to appointment.
Subject to 24 hour call back and must, therefore, be able to work emergency overtime.
Subject to working in adverse weather conditions and may be exposed to raw waste or environments generating methane gas.
Ability to distinguish different color wiring.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: One (1) year of experience with preventive, corrective, and emergency repairs to industrial equipment in the most efficient and effective manner to reduce equipment downtime.
One (1) year of experience coordinating and collaborating with internal & external customers regarding the periodization in the repair effort.
One (1) year of experience performing inspections of industrial plant operating assets to ensure proper functioning.
State of Virginia Master Electrician's license.
Intermediate experience using Microsoft Suites applications.
Two (2) years of experience observing electrical safe work practices.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to climb up to 35 ft., on ladders and scaffolding.
Ability to discern color.
Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer.
Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 75 lbs.
Ability to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, walk, climb, sit, kneel, crouch, reach, crawl, lift and handle materials with manual dexterity.
Ability to use hand tools.
Ability to work in hot and cold temperatures.
Work requires entering confined spaces with weight restriction of 310 lbs.
Work requires performing tasks in adverse weather conditions.
Work requires performing tasks in an environment in which raw waste is present.
