Role Summary:
The IPM Technician I perform all Integrated Pest Management activities under the guidance of the designated IPM lead, with minimal direct supervision, to support the day-to-day cultivation operations in the stocking and upkeep of a medical cannabis production facility. This role identifies, monitors, tracks, and controls insect, fungal, and bacterial populations within the cultivation areas and is versed in treatment through biological and chemical controls. Candidates must understand application methodology including the calibration and application procedures of equipment, and all local state guidelines, while maintaining attention to detail, precise recording keeping, and inventory tracking.
Key Responsibilities:
IPM Technician I
All candidates must be able to work in an environment with a safety culture. Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, reaching, and high dexterity functions are required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions, including but not limited to:
Identifies pest and pathogens and their levels in the cultivation areas
Monitors pest and pathogen levels, and updates IPM leads and area supervisors accordingly
Monitors crop health in cultivation areas, using a variety of tools and instrumentation
Maintains and monitors beneficial organism populations and rates
Develops, modifies, and applies plant protectant treatment plans accordingly
Tracks product usage in plant protectant preparation
Maintains clear records and logs, and ensures timely submission of all required records
Stay current on practices and all local, state and federal codes and regulations related to IPM in agriculture
Attend required trainings to maintain commercial applicators license for pest category
Maintain effective written and oral communication with IPM team leads or/and Cultivation Manager
Follow standard operating procedures for assigned tasks and projects; follows all safety protocols
Performs other duties as assigned
Completing coursework designated in the "Fluent Sessions" training program
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no management functions.
Work environment:
This job operates in a commercial horticulture environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud, tight corners and workspaces. Extensive walking and equipment operation. Exposure to extreme weather conditions, pesticides, fertilizers and pollen producing environment. Work time expectation: 80% of time will be physical labor, 20% training and misc.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Some examples are lifting to 50lbs, work with hands above head, repetitive motions, bending over for extended period, and working in tight, dusty, cold, hot, spaces, etc.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

No travel is expected for this position.

Must be at least 21 years of age and pass background check.
Minimum of two years' field or greenhouse pest management experience OR an undergraduate degree in a related field
Must have, or obtain a State Certified Applicator license in Pest category within 90 days
Ability to identify insects, arthropods, vertebrates and other pests and create treatment plans based on physiology.
