Job Summary:
The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for repairing, maintaining, designing and installing different kinds of electrical systems.
In addition, the Journeyman Electrician determines the type and cost of materials required for the project, ensures specifications and drawings are accurate, reviews projects and plans, determines layouts and testing electrical patterns.
This role is also responsible for retrofitting equipment with controls needed to improve the efficiency and performance of electrical devices.
This position reports to the I & E Superintendent.
Primary Job Function: Reading blueprints, running conduit, wiring devices, troubleshooting, and performing quality control testing.
Reading and interpreting mechanical, architectural and electrical drawings and code specifications for determining wiring layouts.
Troubleshooting, testing and repairing emergency generators and various electrical systems and power distribution systems to ensure that they are working properly.
Performing upgrades or preventive maintenance to electrical control systems.
Running tests, isolating problems, replacing damaged section of wiring, laying conduit, and performing other tasks as required.
Supervising apprentices, performing ordering and inventory of basic supplies, and managing other electricians.
Training general electricians and working on various projects without supervision.
Keeping abreast of new technology, electrical services, and manufacturing processes.
Performing physically demanding tasks like moving or lifting heavy objects, digging trenches for laying conduit.
Experience: 3+ years of industrial electrical installation, maintenance and repair experience.
Education & Certifications: High School Diploma required.
Journeyman Electrician License.
Competencies: Proficient in electrical installation, maintenance and repair in all settings.
Reports to assigned job site location on time, as directed.
Understands and complies with Strike's safety requirements (O.S.H.A.).
Understands and complies with all NEC, state, and local codes.
Takes pride in craftsmanship.
Has ability to visualize completed work prior to installation.
Has ability to plan, schedule, and organize tasks in an efficient manner in order to meetdeadlines.
Demonstrates proper use and safe handling of tools, equipment, and materials.
Setup and verify field devices and controls are correct for field installations and owneracceptance.
Reads and understands labels, job site maps/directions, instruction manuals, and written instructions accurately.
Possesses knowledge of and ability to properly give 'hand signals' to operators.
Possesses knowledge of effects of soil on underground installations and cables.
Has ability and skill to direct/train helpers and apprentices in proper work practices inorder to meet production requirements.
Maintains personal hand tools per Strike's company policy.
Possesses technical knowledge, safety knowledge, and ability to work with live/energized parts.
Knowledge of electrical tools and machines used in settings.
Should possess strong manual dexterity.
Great eye-hand coordination for working with small wires.
Ability to recognize wires by colors.
Expert communicator and should possess problem solving ability.
