Position Description
The Litigation and Compliance Counsel – California will provide advice to the Assistant General Counsel for Employment Litigation ("AGC") and the California business team on various California statutes and codes, will manage California litigation in both state and federal forums, and will manage and defend Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ("EEOC") and state agency charges.
From time to time, the Litigation Counsel may provide broader advice to company management as a member of the legal team.
Principal Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include:
Quality assurance team leadership to ensure operational compliance with California laws.
Initial review of EEOC and state agency charges and conferring with the AGC on a strategy to defend all charges.
Intake of filed litigation and conferring with the AGC and General Counsel on defense strategies.
Other California duties, as assigned by the AGC and General Counsel.
Work with other members of the legal team on Requests for Proposals for California contracts and management of California business relationships.
Candidate Profile
Skills
Legal Proficiency – capable and efficient commercial lawyer with strong attention to detail, ability to focus on material issues, and a commitment to ethics in business dealings.
Solution-oriented – able to quickly identify and assess legal and other risks and to develop and implement mitigating actions with an eye toward business productivity.
Client-oriented – able to manage a large volume of transactions for various branch locations.
Teamwork – understand and contribute to achieving business objectives, communicate clearly and respectfully, and share – and be open to – different points of view.
Requirements
J.D.
from a qualified U.S. law school.
California Bar membership.
Experience
Three to five years experience working as a law firm litigator.
Expertise in federal and California litigation.
Wage-hour litigation experience preferred.
Salary: $100,000+ / year
