DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Development Division at GBH supports our public media mission by raising more than $50 million annually through contributions from individuals, foundations, and institutions.
The Membership Department, a team of 24 including consultants and part-time staff, is responsible for raising annual contributions below the $900 level from nearly 190,000 members.
This department plays a crucial role in engaging our audience across TV, radio, digital platforms, and events, ensuring a robust foundation of support for GBH's content and services.

POSITION OVERVIEW
As the Managing Director of Membership, you will report to the Chief Development Officer and lead a high-energy, data-driven team responsible for raising more than $20 million annually.
You will drive innovation in fundraising by developing strategies for expanding digital revenue streams while ensuring the continued success of traditional fundraising methods.
The ideal candidate will bring expertise in digital and traditional fundraising and experience managing large-scale membership programs.
You will collaborate with various departments across GBH, including our key media partners, to ensure fundraising efforts align with our mission and goals.
In addition, you will work closely with our external partner, Contributor Development Partnership (CDP), to optimize membership services and implement successful direct mail, canvassing, and email marketing strategies.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO Strategy & Innovation Develop and implement a comprehensive membership and fundraising strategy with measurable goals to support GBH's mission across multiple media platforms.
Lead efforts to expand digital fundraising while maintaining traditional revenue streams, positioning GBH's membership program for long-term success.
Identify and develop external partnerships to enhance membership benefits.
Foster a collaborative, motivated, innovative team environment that attracts and retains top talent.
Partner Relationships Serve as the primary liaison between GBH Membership and the Contributor Development Partnership (CDP).
Oversee the relationship and service agreements with CDP and other external vendors.
Manage pilot programs and beta testing to improve membership outreach and engagement.
Operations Collaborate with the Finance Department to develop budgets, set revenue goals, and forecast based on trends.
Support each team in Membership to achieve aggressive yet attainable goals.
Monitor external factors that may impact revenue, such as economic conditions or availability of pledge programming.
Internal Relationships Work closely with leaders across the organization, including broadcast partners, to ensure consistent messaging and coordination across fundraising activities.
Collaborate with on-air pledge teams to execute local on-air messaging and meet revenue goals.
Management Skills Provide strong leadership and foster a collaborative work environment.
Stay at the forefront of digital and innovative fundraising techniques to ensure success in a changing media landscape.
Demonstrate excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
WHAT SKILLS YOU NEED: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience Minimum of 10 years of experience in membership, relationship marketing, or nonprofit fundraising, with a strong preference for experience in a federated or large-scale organization.
Proven success in developing and implementing digital fundraising strategies.
Excellent management skills and a collaborative approach to leadership.
A passion for public media and nonprofit work is highly desirable.
