POSITION PURPOSE:
The Moab Mechanic will service, repair, and maintain heavy equipment used for the Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) Project, at both the Moab and Crescent Junction sites, including, but not limited to, heavy-duty trucks and trailers, bulldozers, excavators, forklifts, water trucks, dump trucks, backhoes, and trailers. The work is performed through the application of a body of knowledge and specific certifications that denote expertise in heavy equipment maintenance and repair. This position includes mechanic/oiler performing more routine and simple tasks to a lead mechanic responsible for more complex assignments and repairs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Diagnosing, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing on various systems that are found on pieces of heavy equipment such as mechanical and computer electronic controls, air brake systems, transmissions, generators, and pneumatic systems.Performing equipment service maintenance requirements, including oil and hydraulic changes, according to manufacturers' recommendations.Maintaining inventory of parts and support supplies to perform routine equipment maintenance.Maintaining service records and preparing cost materials estimates.Overhauling engines, replacing engines, and rebuilding components.Keeping tools, equipment, and work area clean, organized, and in good working condition.Road testing equipment.Perform corrective and preventative maintenance on fleet of intermodal shipping containers. ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other related duties as assigned by management. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent.2–7 years of heavy equipment service, repair, and maintenance. Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair of heavy equipment.Skilled in the use of diagnostic testing and tuning equipment, welding equipment, use of hand tools for repairs, and servicing of heavy equipment.Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions.Ability to read manuals and schematics.Ability to communicate professionally with other mechanics about repair work needed.Motivated and willing to work as part of a team and perform multiple job functions.Ability to read and comply with project direction contained in project-specific plans and procedures. Special Requirements: Must pass pre-employment background check.Must pass pre-employment drug testing.Must have a valid driver license.Ability to pass U.S. Government employment background check and acquire U.S. Government Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential card.Ability to qualify as a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Radiation Worker II and complete Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) worker qualification and pass a HAZWOPER/respirator user medical exam. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Diesel mechanic certification preferred but not required.Ability to qualify as a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Radiation Worker II and complete Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) worker qualification, and pass a HAZWOPER/respirator user medical exam. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will stand/walk for long periods of time in an outside environment, but will also be required to sit, and talk or hear. The employee is often required to use hands or fingers to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. May work in different types of personal protective equipment (half-face, full-face respirators, Tyvek, etc.) while performing various tasks/activities (e.g., climbing, walking, stopping, etc.) in different work environments (e.g., cold, heat, etc.).
