The Medical Records Technician (MRT) provides support to a facility by organizing, filing, scanning, and maintaining the medical records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Adds new material to file records, and create new records as necessary
+ Answers questions about records and files
+ Assigns and records or stamps identification numbers or codes, to index materials for filing
+ Eliminates outdated or unnecessary materials, destroying them to inactive storage according to file maintenance guidelines and/or legal requirements
+ Enters document identification numbers into the system to determine locations of documents to be retrieved
+ Finds and retrieves information from files in response to request(s) from authorized users
+ Keeps records of material filed or removed per facility policy
+ Modifies and improves filing systems and/or implements new ones
+ Performs periodic inspections of the materials or files to ensure correct placement, legibility, and proper condition
+ Places materials into storage receptacles, such as file cabinets, boxes, bins, or drawers, according to classification and identification information
+ Scans or reads incoming materials according to guidelines such as content, purpose, user criteria, or chronological, alphabetical, or numerical order
+ Tracks materials removed from file to ensure that borrowed files are returned
+ Converts documents for storage on microforms (such as microfilm or microfiche) or scanned document imaging
+ Designs forms related to filing system
+ Gathers materials to be filed from departments and employees
+ Operates mechanized files to bring needed records to a particular location
+ Performs general office duties such as typing, data entry, operating office machines, sorting mail, and answering phones
+ Retrieves documents for viewing, whether stored in microfilm or microfiche or on scanned images
+ Protects patients rights to privacy by keeping patient information confidential
+ Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
+ High School degree or equivalent required
+ Excellent organizational skills
+ Knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines
+ Minimum of 6 months medical record and clerical experience preferred
+ Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
+ Participation and completion of Amergis Competency program when applicable
+ Current CPR if applicable
+ TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
+ Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
+ Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
+ Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
+ Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
+ Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
+ Computer proficiency required
+ Must be at least 18 years of age
