General Purpose of Job :
The position will work in a fast paced, changing health insurance environment. The Business System Analyst's role is to help University of Michigan Health Plan (UM Health Plan) research, design and implement complex technology solutions to maximize benefits to our customers and members. A BSA possesses an in-depth knowledge of multiple aspects of UM Health Plan's business operations and leverages research, fact-finding, team collaboration and creativity to solve business challenges with commercial and custom applications, modern integration technologies and best-practice software development management methodologies.
Essential Duties :

Support analyzing, designing and implementation of varying complexity solutions and systems across dedicated areas of UM Health Plan business operations.
Learn and apply best practice design methods, approaches and iterative improvement methods
Trouble shoot application issues, identify root cause and work with customers to implement resolution
Analyze and evaluate business requirements, current processes and interfaces to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement through upgrades, expansion or other projects
Design, test, debug, document, implement and maintain complex business applications
Partner with key business areas and other technical teams to provide pre-project consultation and solution development support
Research and understand business requirements (both stated and unstated) and communicate effectively with customers to balance strategic and technology implications/trade-offs
Support the crafting and maintenance of technical designs and architecture documents by reviewing functional, security, performance, and interoperability requirements and defining solutions that meet those needs.
Support deep-dive technical research on configuration, integration and other capabilities within our application suites to provide guidance to software developers, operations/support analysts and other internal stakeholders
Maintain a growing understanding of UM Health Plan business systems, their underpinning technical enablers, and dependencies between them
Lead small/medium-sized application or module implementations and optimization projects through the entire solution development life cycle from requirements gathering, design, development, testing/validation and release
Provide subject matter expertise and support escalated production support issues
Develop and execute test scripts for unit testing and integrated testing for enhancements and upgrades, etc.

• Bachelor's degree in business, finance, math, computer science, engineering or other analytic field and minimum 3 years of relevant work experience; OR Associates degree in business, finance, math, computer science, engineering or other analytic field and minimum 5 years of relevant work experience. Preferred: • Master degree in math, computer science or engineering
