Job Description - Physician Assistant III, Emergency Department Full Time (3299552) Martha's Vineyard Hospital is a 25 bed Critical Access Hospital located on beautiful Martha's Vineyard Island, just 7 miles off the coast of Cape Cod Massachusetts. We provide year-round health care support to island residents, as well as a seasonal surge during the summer months. We are a not-for-profit organization affiliated with the Massachusetts General Brigham (MGB) healthcare system. Position Overview The primary role of the Emergency Department Physician Assistant will be to provide direct care management of Emergency Department (ED) patients in collaboration with the ED attending physician(s) and other members of a multidisciplinary ED team. This position is specifically to improve care for patients being evaluated and treated in the ED.
Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnessPerform age-appropriate history and physicalOrder and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient's age-specific needsPrescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments to patient's age-specific needsMonitor the effectiveness of treatmentsProvide education on acute and chronic medical conditionsManage chronic medical conditionsReconcile medication listFacilitate appointments to specialistsProvide thorough exams and evaluations of patient's health statusFacilitate appropriate chronic care management (i.e., diabetic eye exams, foot exams, and nutritional counseling)Keep track of and refer patients to appropriate preventive medical screenings (e.g., mammograms and colonoscopies)Counsel and reinforce patients in healthy lifestyle habitsEducation Requirements Massachusetts licenseACLS CertificateMCSR (Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration)Experience EMR experience requiredAbility to document in electronic health record completely and accuratelyKnowledge of clinical reminders and how to use them appropriatelyGood communication skills, both spoken and writtenWilling and able to work in a team environmentAble to adapt to the ever-evolving healthcare fieldMartha's Vineyard Hospital and Windemere Nursing & Rehabilitation Center are Equal Opportunity Employers.
