The City of Surprise Community Development Department seeks a highly motivated and knowledgeable Plans Examiner II to join its team.
A Plans Examiner II will work collaboratively with other city departments, residents, business owners, architects, and engineers to ensure that the City of Surprise grows safely and efficiently for the benefit of its residents and businesses.
A successful candidate will be well versed in commercial and complicated residential plan review as well as be organized, able to effectively handle multiple priorities, a team player, able to assist in training and committed to providing excellent customer service.

SUMMARY
Incumbents perform all levels and types of plan review with an emphasis on commercial and/or complex projects.
Incumbents must be able to read, interpret and apply a variety of local and adopted building codes.
In addition to reviewing plans, incumbents must be able to: write letters of review; review and process routine and complex applications for revision or modification; and effectively explain codes, policies processes procedures to architects, contractors, and the public in person, by phone or via written correspondence.
Incumbents are responsible to reinforce the customer service culture and may act as a liaison between the public and other City departments.
Incumbents may act as lead for Plan Review Specialists and Plans Examiner I.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or G.E.D and four years in construction, building inspection, plan review, or building trades sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties.
Additional education cannot be substituted for experience.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
At least one International Code Council (ICC) certification demonstrating proficiency in residential and/or commercial plan review.
