Duties/Responsibilities Duties/Responsibilities This role will be 100% research and management-based within the Laboratory of Archaeology. Special consideration will be given to candidates with expertise in spatial analysis, data analytics, and archaeological approaches to "big-data." There will be a series of deliverables for the position that are linked to key duties of the position. Duties include development of probability models taking into account key environmental differences across the state of Georgia, identifying "at risk" sites endangered by erosion and flooding, directly working to with ITOS to integrated developed models into online databases, and potential management of undergraduate and graduate student assistants in the Laboratory. There will be opportunities to collaborate on publications related to this project.
Percentage of time 100 Position Details Position Information Classification Title Post-Doctoral Associate AD FLSA Exempt UGA Job Code FTE 1.00 Minimum Qualifications Position Summary The Laboratory of Archaeology at The University of Georgia anticipates being able to hire a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in Geographic Information Systems and Computer Modeling in Archaeology. This would be a three-year, 12-month, full-time position. The primary role of the individual will be to collaborate with the Laboratory Director and the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resource on modeling and risk assessment for archaeological sites in Georgia. The ideal person for this position should have demonstratable skills using ArcGIS with regards to large-scale modeling, knowledge of geostatistical methods, a familiarity with state site file data, and the ability to write up process and procedures related to site file research. A familiarity with southeastern archaeology is a preferred, but persons who are trained in other regions are encouraged to apply.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position -Ph.D. in Anthropology/Archaeology or related field from a CHEA accredited institution or international equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies -Demonstrable knowledge of ArcGIS
