It is imperative that every school is led by highly effective leaders with the skills and ability to ensure all students receive a quality educational experience that provides opportunities to think, inspire, and grow.
Through the Principal Project, our hope is to learn more about you as a leader and how you can use your understanding of teaching and learning, operations and management, and school policy and procedures to support school success and student achievement. Please create a 5-slide PowerPoint, using the instructions below, to highlight your body of work and preparedness to serve as a Principal in Charles County Public Schools. You should attach the completed PowerPoint to the attachment section of your application.

The project will be scored using the Maryland Professional Standards for Educational Leaders Rubric. (see pages 8–17 for more information).Slide 5A brief overview of the 30/60/90 day plan you would implement upon assuming the principalship effective July 1, 2024.QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree from an accredited college or university.Hold or be eligible for a Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate with Administrator II endorsement.Three (3) years satisfactory experience as an Assistant Principal or Administrator.Evidence of exemplary human relations skills.Ability to speak and write effectively.Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of others.Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate instructional and curricular methodologies.Commitment to the mission of Charles County Public Schools.Demonstrated successful leadership in educational activities.Understanding of effective schools' research and demonstrated effort to implement the research findings into the administration of a school.Understanding of special education and gifted programs.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Demonstrates proper teaching methods and procedures.Participates in recruitment, screening, selection, and orientation of instructional and non-instructional staff.Assists with and participates in professional development and staff activities.Assists with student discipline.Assists with staff and substitute assignments.Assists with coordination and care of school resources: finance, materials of instruction, equipment, and physical plant.Maintains effective communications with parents, parent groups, civic associations, and other community resources.Assists with the supervision of student activities and co-curricular programs during and beyond the school day.Assists with scheduling students for appropriate classes.Participates in the planning, management and financing of student and community relations activities.Assists the principal in the administration of the school operating budget.Assists with curriculum development, research study groups and committees as assigned.Performs classroom/instruction observations as required.Conducts informal group discussions with teachers concerning educational programs, student progress and appraisals.Coordinates programs to meet specific needs of the school.Models appropriate and professional behavior in interactions with all members of the school community.Responsible for the above duties and responsible for other duties related to this position as determined by the school principal.ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
