Job Description Gilead Sciences (Foster City, CA) is seeking a talented and motivated Senior Research Scientist I to join our Research Oncology Department, with a focus on creative and novel approaches to therapeutically targeting tumor-cell-intrinsic dependencies. Our collaborative and interdisciplinary research team utilizes state-of-the-art technologies and innovative methodologies to advance medicines into the clinic. The successful candidate will lead the discovery, research, and development of novel therapeutic agents to address unmet medical needs of cancer patients. Key Responsibilities Independently plan, execute, analyze, and interpret experiments that drive novel biology research and progress the development of new medicines.Lead and manage a group of Research Associates or a project team to impactfully drive mechanistic research, technology development or pipeline progress.Develop and maintain expertise in relevant scientific fields, with deep knowledge of the external landscape, including the scientific literature, conference proceedings and competitive programs. As an in-house expert, proactively propose creative and focused research plans to discover or validate novel targets.Proactively evaluate new technologies to accelerate early-stage discovery activities, enhance our understanding of disease mechanisms, or enable new therapeutic modalities.Manage multiple projects simultaneously while developing productive partnerships within the oncology, protein engineering, chemistry, translational medicine, biomarker and clinical groups.Lead large and small group discussions to communicate research findings.Proactively partner with Oncology leadership to propose and refine research strategies.Lead or co-lead biology efforts on due diligence teams reviewing external partnering opportunities.Contribute to research reports, INDs, and patent filings and begin to establish an external presence through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and external collaborations.Knowledge, Experience and Skills Ph.D. in relevant field with strong track record of creative and impactful research, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, conference proceedings or patent inventorships. Success as an independent post-doctoral fellow and a minimum of 7 years industry experience preferred.Experience in cancer cell signaling, cell cycle regulation, DNA damage responses, or transcriptional networks is a plus. Experience in research drug discovery and target identification/validation, preferably in oncology, is preferred.Desire to excel in productive partnership with colleagues across Gilead to advance cutting-edge research in the service of patients is a must.
