Position Summary: Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Shift Supervisor will directly supervise employees on the designated shift in production and ensure product is correctly made and prepared according to specs. Other responsibilities will include planning, assigning, and directing workflow. This position will appraise performance, reward and discipline employees, and address complaints and resolve problems. The Shift Supervisor will provide job orientation of newly hired or newly assigned employees, ensuring knowledge of plant and departmental policies and procedures, learning and enhancement of job skills, safety and quality awareness, etc. In addition, this position will assist in the investigation of all accidents such as work-related injuries and property damages. The Shift Supervisor will collaborate on projects and activities supporting the company goals, operations, continuous improvement initiatives, and business unit/manufacturing strategies and objectives.
Essential Duties: Oversee the performance of the department while focusing on Cost, Quality, Safety and Employee Environment.Responsible for design, development and implementation of programs and procedures to maximize production, minimize waste, increase capacity and efficiencies, and maintain product quality and integrity.Operational responsibilities include controlling costs in raw ingredients, production, direct labor, operating expenses, and capital expenditures.Communicate and interact effectively with the department personnel, Plant Manager, all departments, plants, support services and all levels of management to ensure the smooth operation of the process.Coordinate and monitor scheduling of personnel to ensure proper staffing in accordance with union contract.Supervises production staff daily work to meet performance expectations, including training and development and timekeeping functions.Coach, counsel, and discipline employees in a fair and consistent manner in accordance with the Union contract and the Company's policies, procedures, and work rules with the partnership of Human Resources.Assists in the development, implementation and monitoring of inventory and schedules to ensure schedule is completed.Monitors general production operations and quality of product.Monitors pan rooms to set and adopt standards by management.Seeks continuous improvement in the production department.Develops and updates production department procedural, food safety, and safety SOPs as required, for the safe and efficient operation of all production equipment and related functions.Participates, implements and provides leadership for Employee Safety, Food Safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and departmental cost goals.Manages operations to comply with all applicable safety, food safety and environmental laws and regulations, as well as Company safety policies, food safety and quality procedures and standards.Understand and comply with all HACCP and CGMP requirements and processes.Understand and comply with RSPO and organic programs.Other duties as assigned.Key Qualifications: Bachelor's degree; OR High school diploma or state issued equivalency plus 4 years of production, operations or logistics experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR High School diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 4 years of supervisory/managerial experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.Manufacturing experience with candy, food, Beverage, or confections is required.Lean manufacturing experience preferred.Requires excellent oral, written, and communication skills.Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions is required.Ability to manage employees and resolve personnel issues professionally is required.Must be available to work all shifts and weekends as required.Requires operation knowledge of computer software (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, Sage X3 etc.).Ability to work flexible work schedules to include working Day, Swing or Grave shift.The pay for this role in the state of CA ranges from $66,560 to $80,000 per year based on years of experience, position responsibilities and geographic location.
