What You Will Be Doing: Civil Construction Estimating (approx. 20% of your time).Perform or coordinate quantity takeoffs, cost estimates and analyze construction methods.Contact appropriate vendors and suppliers for estimates.Review plans and specifications for earthwork, paving, underground storm retention, storm drain, water, sewer and dry utilities.Develop thorough, timely and accurate estimates, proposals and bid documents.Participate in planning meetings to determine types of Projects to bid and establish bidding strategies.Participate in job reviews with the owner.Civil Construction Project Management (approx. 80% of your time)Scheduling construction projects, overseeing production from the conception phase to the construction phase, coordinating deadlines to ensure that projects are completed within the proposed time frame.Creating status reports for key project stakeholders, issuing progress updates as needed regarding costs and timelines.Determining needed resources (team members, equipment, and materials) from start to finish with attention to budgetary limitations. Keeping an inventory of job site materials, tools, and equipment.Evaluating a project's costs and preparing a budget outlining both soft and hard costs. Finding solutions to reduce budgets when necessary.Communicating with staff, supervisors, and other parties involved with the construction project. Leading team meetings, creating agendas for the meetings, and preparing documents such as schedules and logs.Overseeing the performance of the site manager and other members of the construction team, providing guidance when needed.Negotiating with external vendors to obtain profitable construction contracts.Obtaining permits, licenses, approvals, traffic plans and other necessary prerequisites from the appropriate authorities.Ensuring all work is being done in compliance with relevant building and safety codes. What You Need: A high school diploma or equivalent.3-5 years' experience as a construction manager or in a similar position in civil construction management.Prior experience leading a construction site.Ability to build solid relationships with team members, vendors, and customers.Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.Ability to create multiple timelines, budgets, and schedules.Experience compiling and following strict budgets.Ability to read and understand blueprints and drawings.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.In-depth understanding of the construction industry including strong knowledge of construction management best practices.Knowledge of local, state, and federal building code regulations.Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and experience with Project Management software preferred (Microsoft Project, or similar).
