We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data Security Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading and executing comprehensive data security strategies to safeguard our organization's sensitive information and systems. This role requires a deep understanding of data security best practices, strong analytical abilities, and the ability to lead and mentor junior team members.
This position can be located in Washington, DC or Richmond, VA and offers a schedule of 3 days onsite, 2 days remote.
Responsibilities
Data Security Strategy:Develop, implement, and continuously enhance data security strategies, policies, and procedures to protect the organization's data assets from internal and external threats.
Implement & Operate Microsoft Purview:Assist in our continued rollout of Microsoft Purview for data protection, loss prevention, and behavior analytics. Implementation, management, and development work is needed in this area.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation:Conduct regular assessments of data security risks, vulnerabilities, and potential impacts. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement mitigation strategies.
Incident Response:Lead and coordinate data security incident response activities, including detection, analysis, containment, eradication, and recovery. Provide timely and effective communication to stakeholders during incidents.
Security Architecture Review:Evaluate existing data security architectures and propose improvements to enhance data protection, privacy, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Data Classification and Encryption:Classify sensitive data and recommend appropriate encryption methods. Oversee the implementation and management of encryption technologies across various data repositories.
Compliance and Regulations:Stay current with data security regulations, standards, and compliance requirements. Ensure the organization's data security practices align with industry standards and legal obligations.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree required from an accredited, not for profit university or college.
A track record of commitment to prior employers
1 or more years of experience implementing and operating Microsoft Purview or its predecessor.
Minimum of 6 years of experience in data security, with a focus on risk assessment, incident response, and security architecture design.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or equivalent certification
In-depth knowledge of data security frameworks, standards, and best practices (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, CIS).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, with a track record of successfully leading and guiding junior security team members.
Experience in regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, finance) and familiarity with GDPR, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, or other relevant regulations is a plus.
Knowledge of cloud data security best practices and technologies is advantageous.

This position offers a base salary range of $133,000 - $203,500, based on relevant skills and experience and includes a generous benefits plan.
