As the Senior Director of Development, you will spearhead all technology (solar, wind, storage, green hydrogen) development and strategy initiatives within the U.S. market. You will leverage your deep understanding of key target markets to drive renewable project development and transactions, navigate policy landscapes, and shape market development strategies. Strong communication skills and financial acumen are essential as you lead complex initiatives and drive deals to successful closure.

You will lead a team of development team, overseeing the expansion of a diverse cross-technology greenfield portfolio while actively participating in the evaluation and sourcing of M&A opportunities. Your role demands a proactive approach to market development and value creation across multiple project pipelines. While collaborating closely with the management team, you will maintain a hands-on approach, ensuring a meticulous understanding of both granular details and overarching strategic objectives.

Responsibilities
Develop and execute the project development strategy for target markets, aligning with organizational growth objectives and investment goals.
Cultivate and maintain strong networks with energy industry stakeholders to identify and originate development project opportunities.
Lead all aspects of project development including greenfield initiatives, partnerships, and acquisitions (supported by the Mergers and Acquisitions team), from opportunity identification through completion.
Clearly articulate and document the business case for project opportunities, detailing risks, benefits, and returns to secure investment approvals from senior management and/or the Investment Committee.
Coordinate and lead project development activities with internal teams and external consultants, ensuring projects advance from site prospecting to full notice to proceed, encompassing real estate, resource assessment, interconnection, permitting processes, regulatory/community engagement, and economic analysis.
Collaborate with the Project Finance team to analyze deal structures, economic viability, and tax assumptions, ensuring alignment with underwriting criteria and supporting project financing efforts.
Direct commercial power offtake activities, working with the Power Marketing/Research team to identify offtake partners and secure long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for development assets.
Monitor project performance through EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) and initial operation phases to evaluate performance against financial assumptions.

Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Business, Engineering, Legal, Science, or related field.
Minimum of 10+ years of professional experience in the energy industry, with senior roles in business development and/or project development functions.
Strong commercial acumen with a proven track record of identifying and originating business opportunities, assessing key value drivers, and aligning projects with business objectives.
Excellent negotiation skills and ability to effectively represent organizational interests and gain support for ideas.
Collaborative team approach, adept at working across different organizational teams to manage project development opportunities effectively.
Solid knowledge of the renewable power sector, including key stakeholders and regulatory landscape.
Established network of contacts within the renewable energy industry, including developers, off-takers, government representatives, and financial stakeholders.
Strong business analysis skills with the ability to assess potential value and risks of opportunities, prioritizing projects accordingly.
Experience in developing utility-scale power and infrastructure projects including siting, permitting, and interconnection (multiple technologies such as storage, solar, wind, gas, etc. are acceptable).
Proven project management skills with a track record of successfully delivering complex projects.
Familiarity with engineering, procurement, and construction processes for major power or infrastructure projects.
Experience taking renewable energy projects from inception to completion, demonstrating success in originating and developing bankable projects.
Proficiency in corporate and financial structuring, and experience negotiating and closing joint ventures and acquisition opportunities.
Applied understanding of financial modeling, particularly Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) analysis.
