Position Description The Senior Estimator will lead all estimating efforts on the most complex and large-scale projects, including conceptual estimates, negotiated bids, budgets, general conditions, systems studies and comparisons, value engineering, subcontractor relations and staying abreast of industry developments applicable to estimating.
Responsibilities Ensure all estimates are thorough and consistent with company standards and practices. Analyze project specifications, drawings, and related documents to develop detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, and overhead. Oversee the bid process, including preparing and submitting proposals for competitive projects. Develop strategies for bid preparation and ensure compliance with client requirements. Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients to clarify project scope and requirements. Facilitate meetings to discuss project costs, estimates, and potential challenges. Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions, verify scope, and gather information necessary for accurate estimates. Establish and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and quality materials. Implement best practices and innovative estimating techniques to improve efficiency and accuracy. Prepare quantity take-offs and apply unit pricing for material and labor to establish a value for the work. Prepare value engineering and risk analysis. Prepare qualifications and assumptions for the estimate. Prepare cost comparisons/reconcile with previous estimates. Manage Subcontractor solicitation & selection process. Prepare Exhibit B, and/or scope sheets. Prepare an in-house budget and GMP. Direct and mentor junior estimators in the preparation of accurate and comprehensive project estimates. Essential Functions Strong interpersonal communication and negotiation skills. Highly developed sense of professional ethics. Ability to lead a team as well as independently. Demonstrated ability to improve processes and create efficiencies. Extreme attention to detail. Ability to identify project risks and plan/take action as needed. Required Experience BS or MS in Engineering, Construction Management, or similar field with a minimum of 5 years' experience in estimating field. 10+ years' experience in the construction estimating field. Proficient in specialized estimating software. Strong experience in Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel. Understanding of construction processes, materials, and methodologies.
