This opportunity entails being responsible for coordinating and monitoring inspection efforts in a specific discipline/trade on moderate size and complex projects to ensure that Contractor's construction activities are monitored and controlled in accordance with design plans, specifications, and contractual requirements. You will assist with the resolution of project issues, plan and conduct tasks requiring the evaluation, selection, substantial adaptation, and modification of standard construction engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. You will also review submittals by contractors for conformance with the construction contract documents and act as a technical liaison between the contractor and design engineering staff. This position is a lead role to direct, mentor, and train junior staff.
What You'll Do: Inspect, monitor, and oversee construction field work tasks and activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans and specifications.Administer KPIs and budget, read and interpret complex contract documents to ensure compliance.Perform or oversee on-site material testing and review plans and specifications to determine material requirements.Track item quantities and prepare pay estimates ensuring that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications.Initiate field changes to drawings and specifications, identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.Review contractor's daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency.Prepare weekly progress reports.Consult with the Resident Engineer on work progress and construction problems, proactively recommend solutions, and assist in the resolution of issues.Remain current and knowledgeable of industry technology and tools used to perform inspection work through industry resources, training, and research.Perform office engineer work when needed, including assisting the change manager and project manager in contractor claims and disputes.Lead daily assignments, mentor, and train employees.Recruit, hire, develop, and retain staff, including development of plans for staff reporting, performance, and compensation reviews.Perform other duties as assigned.What You'll Need: Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 6 years relevant experience, or Master's degree in Engineering and 5 years relevant experience, or Doctorate degree in Engineering and 4 years relevant experience.
What You'll Bring: Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for workmanship, materials, etc.Ability to secure and deploy section/department resources effectively and efficiently.Capability to lead the work of the project team in the absence of the PM/RE.Experience in advanced shop drawing and submittal review as well as advanced CPM schedule analysis.What We Prefer: Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), American Concrete Institute (ACI), Project Management Professional (PMP).OSHA 30 certified preferred.Agency safety training certification preferred.Trained in digital construction management software such as Constructware, Asite, or similar preferred.Additional Information Click here for benefits information: HNTB Total Rewards.
