Senior Mining Technologies Engineer Employee Type: Salary City: Sahuarita State/Territory: US-AZ Positions Open: Site Name: Mission Mine Site Location: Sahuarita, US-AZ, 85629 POSITION OVERVIEW The Senior Engineer, Mining Technologies is responsible for planning, implementing, maintaining, and managing Operations Systems/Operations Technology (OS/OT) at ASARCO Mission Mine including documentation, projects, preventive and corrective maintenance, work scheduling, and replacement/spare parts management as assigned by the supervisor. The Senior Engineer, Mining Technologies will supervise Operations Systems Engineers and Operations Systems Technicians. The Senior Engineer, Mining Technologies will work closely with Asarco Information System/Information Technology (IS/IT). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Supervise field mine technology systems engineers and field mine technology operations systems hardware technicians. • Work closely with Control System Engineers to ensure reliable and effective operation and communication of Control Systems. • Supervise, evaluate, install, and maintain Operations Systems, upgrades, and new technologies, including network infrastructure, safety and environmental systems, mobile equipment hardware and software, two-way radio systems, and video monitoring systems. • Plan, oversee, implement, and document Operations Systems improvement projects. • Manage equipment specifications and replacement/spare equipment and parts. • Supervise, document, and ensure reliable and effective Operations Systems communication utilizing microwave and networking technologies, including the ASARCO OS/OT Ethernet and Wi-Fi networks, wireless mesh network, video monitoring network, and two-way radio network. • Supervise, configure, document, troubleshoot, and maintain OS/OT network infrastructure such as firewalls, routers, managed and unmanaged switches, Windows and Unix servers and workstations, including hardware and software upgrades and security patches. • Supervise, document, and ensure reliable and effective Operations Systems technologies such as the DISPATCH Fleet Management System (DISPATCH FMS), Modular Provision, Caterpillar Minestar Terrain for Dozing, Operator Awareness Systems (OAS), slope stability monitoring systems, Orica BlastIQ, security camera system, two-way radio system, and any other additional systems. • Supervise, maintain, and improve Operations Systems data gathering systems, data storage, and reporting systems. • Uphold and reinforce the Safety Principles of ASARCO Mission Mine by always acting in a safety conscious manner and by encouraging all personnel to work safely. Coordinate safety issues with Mission safety departments and respective stakeholders. • Participate in the continuous improvement of practices and procedures in the Mine Operations, Mine Maintenance and Engineering departments. ADDITIONAL DUTIES • Maintain a good working liaison with all ASARCO Mission personnel, including Mining Supervisors & Equipment Operators, by communicating and coordinating with Asarco IS/IT, Mission Operations staff, maintenance, production, and management. • Uphold the Values of the Company by actively contributing to the ASARCO Mission Occupational Health Safety & Environment Policy, Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement Activities. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES • Comprehensive knowledge of mining & pre-stripping operations and Modular Mining Inc. DISPATCH 6 Fleet Management and Provision 3 Systems including hardware, software, and networking technologies. • Knowledge of, and ability to troubleshoot, Unix and Microsoft servers and workstations, various networking technologies, and two-way radio systems used for voice and data. • Knowledge of Database and reporting software including Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Server Reporting Services, PI, and Power BI. • Ability to use test/calibrating equipment, hand tools, and power tools. • Ability to communicate and work with vendors and suppliers, including using SAP/SRM for purchasing. • Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrate cadence to lead, coach, and mentor subordinate team members. • Ability to solicit input from other employees. • Ability to write reports, maintenance records, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public. • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, governmental regulations, professional journals, technical procedures and procedure manuals, operating and maintenance instructions, and safety rules. • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. • Ability to interpret and apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. • Ability to deal with and solve practical problems and involving a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations, and in situations where only limited standardization exists. • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES • Strong knowledge in the operation and maintenance of on-site digital data and safety systems listed above. • Must be proficient with MS Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook. • Strong hardware/software troubleshooting ability. • Good communications skills in English (oral and written). • Ability to effectively interact with technical and non-technical personnel. • Applicants may be required to lift objects more than 50 lbs. • Must be able to perform fieldwork in outdoor environments. The mine can have periods of extreme temperatures. Ability to exercise caution to safely navigate over uneven ground conditions. • Must have valid driver's license. ADDITIONAL DUTIES • Ongoing education, training, and certifications. • This is an on-call position that requires remote troubleshooting and, if necessary, on site, off shift resolution of system problems. If the issue can't be resolved remotely, you and/or your team will be expected to travel to the site and continue the troubleshooting and repair process to get the respective Mission critical systems back up and running. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or Information Technology or equivalent experience. • Strong operational background in equipment operation in open-cut mining operations. • 4 to 6 years of experience with DISPATCH 6 Fleet Management systems. • Supervisory experience desired. ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY • The job requires training or instruction in the area of Environmental Awareness. • This job requires training or instruction in the area of Safety & Health Awareness including completion of the appropriate MSHA training.
