SOFTWARE UI/UX DESIGNER – INDIANOLA, PA
PURPOSE
As a UX/UI Designer, you will play a critical role in crafting the user experience and interface design for our Bayer Radiology medical devices.
You will lead cross-functional discussions on user interface design, representing the voice of the customer through usability evaluations across Bayer's product portfolio. You will provide ergonomic data to support product development and requirements, helping to shape Bayer products that radiologists, technicians, patients, and healthcare professionals rely on every day.
This position will be responsible for creating user-centered design for medical device software applications with primary focus on human factors/ergonomics, user interface design and usability to deliver a high-quality product that meets or exceeds customer expectations and meets FDA design controls.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Apply user-centered design and ergonomic principles to support product development;
Create effective designs by using design thinking to identify opportunities, generate concepts, and iterate based on user feedback;
Create wireframes, prototypes, and user flows for medical device interfaces, ensuring technical feasibility;
Develop UI design specs and collaborate with engineering teams to implement designs;
Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices, and standards to evolve our brand identity and design guidelines for medical devices;
Work closely with software engineers and regulatory teams to ensure design feasibility and compliance with medical device regulations (FDA, ISO) for human factors and usability engineering:FDA Guidance (2016) – 'Applying Human Factors and Usability Engineering to Medical Devices';
IEC TR 62366-2:2016 – Part 2: Guidance on the application of usability engineering to medical devices;
ANSI/AAMI HE75:2009/(R)2018 – human factors engineering – Design of medical devices;
Champion design excellence and advocate for cohesive design systems;
Participate in cross-functional product development teams and technical/design reviews;
Maintain a library of reusable design elements and stay updated on design trends;
Manage own work activities to meet objectives.
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master of Engineering/Science Degree related to User Experience/User Interface Design, Human Centered Design or related field;
Multiple years of experience in product development, user experience design and product design;
Multiple years of hands-on experience in creating elegant, easy-to-use interfaces for applications with a rich and complex set of features;
Knowledge in software usability principles and current trends and advances in interface design;
Advanced knowledge of UX wireframe, visual design, and prototyping software (e.g. Figma, Photoshop, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.);
Demonstrated success leading design efforts across multiple products to achieve a central solution;
Good experience in creating low and high-fidelity sketches and design documentation;
Strong communication, presentation and analytical skills;
Knowledge of basic human factors principles and ergonomic databases.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
5 years or more of experience in product development, user experience design and product design;
3 years or more of hands-on experience in creating elegant, easy-to-use interfaces for applications with a rich and complex set of features;
Product development experience in medical device development a plus.
