Job Summary: St.
John's University's Center for Counseling and Consultation (CCC) and Department of Athletics seek a dynamic individual to serve as a full-time Psychologist for Student Athletes housed in the Athletic Department.
As a member of the CCC, this individual will report directly to the Director of Counseling and Consultation and provide mental health and performance enhancement services to student-athletes for all 17 NCAA Division I teams within the St. John's University Athletics department.
The Sport Psychologist / Associate Director will provide access to quality mental healthcare by assessing and treating mental health concerns, which may include but are not limited to stress, anxiety, sleep disorders, substance use disorders, identity concerns, depression, trauma, and eating disorders.
The Associate Director will also work with student-athletes, teams, and coaches to enhance athletic performance and serve as a primary consultant to the athletic department on student-athlete mental health, providing training and outreach programs to staff and students, and developing policies that best serve student-athlete mental health.
Essential Functions: Consult with coaches, administrators, faculty, and staff on student-athlete performance, emotional well-being, and psychological functioning issues.Develop and execute mental health institutional policies, procedures, and best practices.Work with coaching and athletic training staff members to ensure collaborative and comprehensive approaches to supporting the college athlete's well-being.Provide triage; assessment measure; individual counseling; didactic/experiential group interventions; consultation; and crisis intervention.Offer crisis intervention for students in emergency situations and participate in the Center's on-call after-hours rotation.Regularly scheduled observation and enhanced availability for impromptu consultation, rapid assessment, and brief interventions at team practices and team talks via presence at the training room, weight room, and competition.Provide Mental Performance workshops/team talks, meet visiting recruits, provide executive coaching, run an injury clinic, provide psychoeducation, and provide staff in-service training on athletics and mental health.Maintain working relationships with designated teams.Provide supervision for doctoral fellows, GAs, and other trainees at the direction of the CCC Director.Foster a productive, inclusive environment that encourages student-athlete well-being, retention, and persistence.Attend St. John's Center for Counseling and Consultation's weekly clinical and staff meetings and engage with members of the Division of Student Success on campus.Comply with all BIG EAST Conference and NCAA rules and regulations.Maintain timely and accurate records according to professional standards and state and federal law.Maintain New York State licensure for independent practice as a mental health clinician and adhere to all applicable legal and ethical principles of the American Psychological Association.Support the mission and strategic priorities of the University.Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of the Center for Counseling and Consultation.Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This position is a full-time, in-person position, and the expected hours are generally Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
This position occasionally requires extended hours and weekend work.
Travel is when appropriate and requested.
Required Education and Experience: PhD, PsyD, or EdD in Counseling or Clinical Psychology.Completion of an APA-accredited internship in an appropriate setting for providing mental health services to student-athletes.Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) education and credentialing.Demonstrated experience working with student-athletes from all backgrounds.Strong ability to consult and collaborate with others.Preferred Education and Experience: Specialized training in sport or performance psychology.Prior experience within a Division 1 athletics department.1-3 years of post-doctoral experience.Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities required of the employee for this job.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $90,000-$120,000.
