Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Sr. Software Engineer I
About the role
The Sr. Software Engineer I will join a team of software developers in support of our Annuity policy administration systems. Vantage, PARIS and LAB are legacy mainframe applications thatadministermost of our Retirement business. They will be an experienced mainframe developer who can fill in for a person who is retiring as well as participate in the upcoming mainframe modernization efforts.
What you'll do in this role:
Participate in daily Agile ceremonies
Assess new requirements to provide high-level estimates
Design and document system integrations and coding enhancements
Develop secure, performant code following team best practices
Complete unit testing and provide support for integration, acceptance, and regression testing.
Coordinate the movement of code between our various test environments
Support resolution of critical production support issues/on-call support
Participate in design and code reviews
Mentor team members as necessary providing subject matter expertise
Building and maintaining APIs to expose mainframe data
Support mainframe modernization efforts

Compensation
Salary Range: $100,300 - $167,100 plus eligibility for annual bonus program.
Who you are
Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related field, OR relevant accredited technical certification, OR equivalent work experience
Validated experience with COBOL, DB2, CICS, JCL, and VSAM is required
Experience with Vantage or a similar Annuity policy admin system on the mainframe is a significant plus
Experience building SOAP/REST APIs, knowledge of AWS, and experience in mainframe modernization efforts would be beneficial
Your success will be driven by supporting and collaborating within a team environment and by taking accountability for delivering high-quality solutions.
