Substation Design Engineer Location:
Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States
Role Overview: As a technical lead substation design engineer, you will:
Design substations for distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission voltage classes. Develop electrical design deliverables, including protection and control design and physical design. Participate in project management, scheduling, and resource planning meetings. Interface with clients, vendors, and subcontractors. Perform QA/QC on projects and mentor junior engineers. Hybrid role in-office three days/week Key Responsibilities: Stay current with design guides, standards, systems, and engineering codes. Ensure compliance with quality programs and support continuous improvement. Prepare complex engineering deliverables and conduct equipment/materials research. Manage budgets, schedules, and quality requirements for projects. Coordinate with internal and external team members on projects. Assist with identifying client interests and communicate them to project teams. Support business development activities. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an accredited program. Minimum of 5 years of high voltage (34.5 kV+) experience. Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements,
including background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records
search. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in substation design – Physical and/or Protection & Controls. Experience in QA/QC of substation design projects. Professional Engineering (PE) License or EIT in pursuit of obtaining a PE License.
