We are looking for a systems/bioengineer to integrate/automate sample collection, nucleic acid extraction, and amplification processes. Previous experience working with automation using lyophilization chemistry is desired.
The successful individual will be familiar with fixturing mechanical subcomponents and building breadboard systems. The instrument/subcomponents will utilize disposable parts. Therefore, the position requires basic knowledge in consumable molding, plastic sealing/welding, and amplification technologies such as PCR.
Skills Required: Perform Systems Engineering design and analysis for product development of automated instrument platforms. Develop algorithms for efficient and robust instrument behavior. Create industry-level system requirements and procedures. Apply experience with system-level electro-mechanical components to develop fluidics and optics systems using Solidworks or CAD tools. Apply knowledge of optical design to fluorescent applications. Conduct system-level tests in the lab against specifications to determine product feasibility and support product development. Design and conduct long-term reliability lab studies of new features and modules per approved protocols. Perform automation programming in Python, Perl, R, LabView, and MatLab. Perform statistical analysis and data trending using data sets, software, and hardware logs. Create technical reports summarizing your findings and showing results. Work with project cross-functional teams to support initiatives to improve instrument reliability and overall quality of existing commercialized products. Perform system-level validation and verification on instruments and systems in the lab. Candidate Requirements Professional team player passionate about systems engineering and creating well-designed instrument platforms. 3+ years of Systems Engineering or experience with at least six months on automated instrument platform development. Degree in Bioengineering, related engineering, or life sciences degree. 4+ years experience in a laboratory. 4+ years experience with data trending and automation programming in LabView and MatLab. 4+ years experience writing industry-level system requirements and procedures. 4+ years experience working on cross-functional teams to improve instrument reliability. 4+ years experience developing algorithms. Prefer 6+ months designing system-level electro-mechanical components in the development of optics using Solidworks or CAD software. The annualized base salary range for this role is $69,700 - $98,200 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs, and market demand.
