Electric Vehicle Digital Design (EVDD) is responsible for developing the key technologies and capabilities – such as EV platforms, batteries, e-motors, inverters, charging and recycling – to create ground-up breakthrough electric vehicles. The Battery Systems Technical Engineering Program Manager will be responsible for the complete engineering lifecycle of the battery system at Ford's Advanced EV Development team. This role requires a high degree of technical expertise in engineering fundamentals, current and future battery technologies, systems engineering, and project management. The successful candidate will lead the technical engineering efforts within the product development engineering team and collaborate with cross-functional groups to deliver a safe, high-performing, and cost-effective battery system.
What you'll be able to do:
Battery System Design and Development: Lead the engineering design, development, and validation of battery systems, encompassing all aspects from concept to production. This includes ensuring requirements are specified, creating detailed design specifications, driving simulations and analyses (e.g., FEA, thermal modeling), and reviewing detailed engineering drawings.
Testing and Validation: Drive the develop and execute of comprehensive test plans to verify battery system performance, safety, and reliability, adhering to relevant industry standards (e.g., UL, IEC). Ensure the team reacts to test results, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.
Risk Management: Proactively identify and assess potential risks throughout the battery system lifecycle. Develop and implement mitigation strategies to ensure project success and regulatory compliance. Document risk assessments and mitigation plans thoroughly.
Cost Optimization: Employ engineering principles to optimize battery system design for cost reduction without compromising performance or safety. This includes leveraging material selection teams, component design individuals, and manufacturing engineering and process optimization. Collaborate with sourcing teams to identify cost-effective components and suppliers.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing engineering, purchasing, quality assurance, and finance, to ensure seamless integration of the battery system into the overall vehicle architecture. This involves regular communication, technical presentations, and active participation in design reviews and problem-solving sessions.
Project Management: Develop and manage detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation. Track progress against milestones, identify and resolve project roadblocks, and provide regular progress updates to senior management. Utilize project management tools and methodologies.
Supplier Management: Work closely with battery component suppliers to ensure timely delivery of high-quality components that meet design specifications. Manage supplier relationships, conduct evaluations, and address any supply chain issues.
Continuous Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve battery design process, timelines, and project management methodologies to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality. Implement lessons learned and other continuous improvement methodologies.

The minimum requirements we seek:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
5 years of experience in battery system design, development, or testing.
Proven experience leading engineering projects from concept to production. 
Expertise in automotive battery technologies – e.g., Lithium-ion battery chemistry, battery management systems (BMS), etc.
Strong understanding of relevant safety standards and regulations.
Proficiency in engineering design software (e.g., CATIA CAD, ANSYS simulation software).
Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Requirements:
Bachelors in engineering with 5+ years program management experience
Hands-on experience building and launching automotive products.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team.
A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement.
