Role: Vice President, US Banks Framework and Governance

Background on the Position
The role will reside within the Firm's Operational Risk Department (ORD). Operational Risk refers to the risk of financial or other loss, or potential damage to a firm's reputation, resulting from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems, or from external events (e.g., fraud, legal and compliance risks or damage to physical assets). Management works with the business units and control groups to help ensure Morgan Stanley has a transparent, consistent, and comprehensive program for managing operational risk, both within each area and across the firm globally. This group designs, implements and monitors the company-wide operational risk program.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead strategic enhancement and key remediation initiatives across multiple aspects of the US Banks Operational Risk Framework, ensuring continued alignment to Global Operational Risk policies, procedures and standards
- Work collaboratively in a high performing Global Operational Risk team responsible for identifying, assessing, reporting, and capturing operational risk information
- Lead Project management aspects associated to the strategic and key remediation initiatives, including collaboration with 1st Line Operational Risk, Bank Senior Management, and cross US Banks and Global Operational Risk teams
- Determine related system and technology enhancements and co-ordinate with Operational Risk Strategic Product Management to facilitate implementation
- Contribute to the development of presentations for executive management and senior risk managers, including reporting to boards and committees
- Build solid relationships across divisions and control groups, including the Business, Legal & Compliance, Operations, Finance and Risk.
- Leverage and continue to build strong knowledge and expertise of products and services provided by US Banks, to support effective 2nd line review and challenge of the associated enhancement and remediation activities
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent, ideally in a quantitative discipline, Finance, Economics or similar
- 6-8+ years of work experience in Operational Risk/Financial control/ Operations based roles within a Retail or Private Banking environment
- Confidence to take ideas forward and to challenge others, where appropriate
- Proven ability to anticipate and identify risks and effective mitigation
- Good understanding of banking regulation, especially relating to operational risk management, highly desirable
- Strong organization skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize; ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; ability to produce concise and effective presentations
- Effective interpersonal skills, freely develops networks, builds consensus, prioritizes effectively, and develops alliances across an organization
- Ability to work in a small team environment, building and maintain a network of contacts and coordinating with a large number of stakeholders
Experience Preferred:
- Internal experience in the Firm's financial and operational control infrastructure

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between 110000 and 190000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
