Position Information
The purpose of this classification is to design, install and maintain computer, data, communications or other networks for County departments and systems as assigned.
Essential Functions
Designs, develops, and configures communications networks and other networks and equipment: ensures compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and rules; conducts site survey and workflow analysis to better utilize departmental resources; works with users to plan appropriate locations for network, and telephone equipment; determines facility modifications necessary to appropriately locate equipment; prepares user site plans for installations; and submits requests for necessary facility modifications such as cable routing, electrical outlets, cooling, and special requirements.
Installs, maintains, and repairs telephone networks and other information systems networks: utilizes the internet and downloads files, software patches and updates to correct file servers and nodes; assembles network hardware; establishes port connections for new equipment to network as needed; and installs and maintains voice communications and connections.
Troubleshoots end-user problems: responds to initial on-site requests for assistance and resolves problems; escalates problem to vendors or other personnel as appropriate; ensures continual operations of customers' networks and equipment; and utilizes diagnostic tools and other resources as appropriate.
Monitors service levels of hardware, software, telephony and other network equipment: identifies trends to prevent system disruptions and downtime; and determines necessary changes to hardware and/or software resources to enhance overall system operations; and makes appropriate recommendations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related field required; supplemented by two years of experience in network engineering; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Preferred Qualifications Deploy, maintain, and manage telephone system: SIP (session initiation protocol), PRI (primary rate interface), VoIP (voice over internet protocol), and Centrex.
Experience working with Carriers such as Lumen, AT&T, and Comcast.
Troubleshoot and resolve analog and digital telephony related issues, including call quality, connectivity, and configuration problems.
Understanding of the Cisco Collaboration solution, architecture (Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Cisco Unity Connection (CUC), Unified Contact Center Express (UCCX), and Finesse) to provide system support, maintenance, and problem resolution.
Configure, deploy, and support Cisco Collaboration solutions, including Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Cisco Unity Connection (CUC), Unified Contact Center Express (UCCX), and Finesse.
Experience with Verba Call Recording or a call recording application by overseeing the system operation to administer user accounts, provide technical support and training, and address access issues to ensure effective use of the system.
Monitor and maintain VoIP Call Centers, hunt groups, and call routing,
Proficient in troubleshooting and debugging voice gateway configurations, Cisco Unity call handlers, Unified Contact Center Express scripting, and pulling call traces and logs.
Knowledge of Webex and Cisco Webex Contact Center.
Oversee and manage the payment of network and telecommunication accounts.
Work on-call shift rotations with other members of the team in case of emergency network issues and to handle any outages relating to the telephone system.
Knowledge of network routing and switching towards data and voice communication.
Licenses and Certifications
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Physical Abilities
Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
Sensory Requirements
Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors
