Job Summary: VP, Risk Management provides strategic direction and leadership for all enterprise risk management and insurance functions for WMCHealth Network. This individual is responsible for the design, implementation, staff leadership and development of enterprise risk management services throughout the organization and participates with senior leadership to develop new and expanding programs that support the risk management strategy of the organization.
Responsibilities: Develops a process or framework for assessing, evaluating and measuring all of the organization's risks. Develops, oversees and directs projects related to assessment, design, implementation, integration for organizational expansion, and other strategic risk elements, and assumes a leadership role in their implementation. Sets strategic and operational objectives, and develops a standardized framework to identify, quantify, measure, report, and mitigate risk across the organization. Provides a clear vision of where enterprise risks lie, and facilitates the process of defining policies to distribute and offset those risks. Develops the data strategy required to build an accurate picture of operational risk, and uses models to describe and quantify risks. Provides leadership for decision making and problem resolution within multidisciplinary groups to support risk management initiatives and goals. Directs the development and implementation of staff education and training programs related to risk management processes and objectives. Develops and leads processes to identify key strategic, financial, operational, and reputational risks, and develops risk mitigation plans for those risks. Develops and implements benchmarking around key risks. Directs the revision of risk profiles, and facilitates ongoing risk assessments. Identifies and prioritizes emerging issues for further investigation, and evaluates risks associated with the organization's strategic planning initiatives. Prepares reports and presentations for senior leadership on the state of enterprise risk throughout the organization. Develops a set of key risk indicators to provide an early warning system of the organization's top enterprise risks. Leads the development of automated tools to standardize risk reporting across the organization. Facilitates the activities of interdisciplinary risk management teams. Qualifications/Requirements: Experience: Seven years of professional experience in the field of risk management, three of which must have included developing and implementing enterprise risk management services for a large, tertiary care medical center.
Education: A Bachelor's degree required.
Special Requirements: Comprehensive knowledge of risk and insurance functions in a large, complex hospital setting; thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures and techniques of enterprise risk management, risk financing and self-insurance; thorough knowledge of accreditation standards, regulatory requirements and case law as related to hospital administration and risk management; ability to understand and manage many diverse types of risk and appreciate their relationship to the strategic goals and objectives of the organization; ability to interpret risk climate, both internal to the organization and external; ability to identify and analyze complex compliance issues and risks, provide leadership, build consensus and communicate effectively; ability to effectively manage shifting priorities and multiple projects and demands; ability to coordinate the work of others; ability to deal with a wide range of executive, administrative, medical, professional and clerical personnel.
