The population served are adjudicated youth and at times, their parent/guardian.Duties and Responsibilities:Follow assigned route for pick up and drop off of clients/assigned passengersEnsure safety of all passengers by following all traffic laws and guidelines including varying traffic conditions and inclement weatherMaintain a clean and mechanically sound vehicle at all timesReport all vehicle maintenance needs/issues/concerns in a timely mannerKeep accurate driving records and reports as requiredAct in an appropriate and professional manner at all timesAbility to deal with varying behaviors and characteristics of clients/passengers including the use of verbal de-escalation skills when necessaryExpect clients/passenger's adherence to transport safety rules and guidelinesAdheres to all agency and program, policy and procedure handbooksCompletes initial and ongoing agency training as required including building safety, policy and procedure, Growth Works Incorporated (GWI) custom training and Detroit Wayne Connect (DWC) topicsAbility to form and maintain positive working relationships with supervisor, co-worker, clients/passengersComplete other duties as assigned by Supervisor Qualifications:High School diploma or equivalent; prior professional driving experience with referencesHave and maintain a valid State of Michigan chauffeur's license good driving record, reliable transportation and automobile insurance meeting minimum requirements as defined by the agencyAbility to work non-traditional schedule including evenings and occasional weekend hoursDemonstrate knowledge of service delivery area Knowledge of traffic laws and local ordinances related to transportationAble to implement verbal de-escalation techniques as necessaryAbility to work effectively with a diverse populationSuccessful completion of initial and on-going employment screens, including, but not limited to criminal and sex offender background checks, drug screen, abuse and neglect check and vehicle record check as requiredPhysical Requirements:Must be able to complete manual tasks while transporting clients such as opening and closing all vehicle doors and ensuring a clean and maintained vehicle Ability to lift and transport materials/supplies up to 25 lbs. for internal documentation and recordkeeping, court support, and other administrative tasks.
