United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust have a vacancy for a full time Consultant in General Anaesthesia.
On-call duties for this Consultant post will be based at Pilgrim Hospital; however, post-holders will be expected to operate flexibly across all hospital sites.
The Department of Anaesthesia at ULHT is accredited by the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

Any Consultant who is unable to work full time will be considered.
If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed and negotiated on an individual basis.
Main duties of the job The Appointee will be expected, in conjunction with his/her colleagues, to provide a comprehensive on-call General Anaesthetic service at Pilgrim Hospital.
Successful candidates will be expected to cover cross-sites as per the ULHT Policy, and this will be discussed in the job plan.
The appointee will take part in the general anaesthesia consultant on-call rota for emergency duties at Pilgrim Hospital and provide, on a reciprocal basis, emergency cover for colleagues during periods of absence.
He/she will be required to play an active part in the robust clinical governance programme in operation within the Department and to take part in regional and national audits and participate in service improvement.
He/she will also be required to report all critical incidents and is expected to attend regularly Clinical Audit, Critical Incident Reporting, Morbidity & Mortality, and Anaesthetic Departmental Team meetings.
He/she will be expected to undertake clinical supervision of Foundation, Core or Specialty trainees including workplace assessment, feedback, and communication with educational supervisors as appropriate.
The appointee will have continuing responsibility for patients in his/her care and for the proper functioning of the department.
Involvement in research where appropriate is encouraged.
He/she will be encouraged to participate in management duties within the Department and the organisation.
About us Pilgrim Hospital is part of the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, which includes Grantham, Lincoln, and Louth Hospitals.
Pleasantly situated on the outskirts of Boston, Pilgrim Hospital is a modern District General Hospital providing a full range of clinical specialities to a catchment population of 210,000.

Boston is the site for major vascular surgery for Lincolnshire.
The hospital provides beds for general surgery, vascular surgery, urology, orthopaedic surgery, ENT, breast, ophthalmology, paediatrics, maxillo-facial surgery, obstetrics, and gynaecology.
The hospital has an Accident and Emergency Department, a Medical Admissions Unit, a combined ITU/HDU with 9 funded beds.

Job responsibilities The Trust is committed to the provision of a high quality, consultant-led service.
The Appointee will be expected, in conjunction with his/her colleagues, to provide a comprehensive Anaesthetic service to ULHT.
The postholder's on-call duties will be based at Pilgrim Hospital, Boston, Lincolnshire, but it is a condition of the appointment that the postholder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations or outreach district general hospital clinics.
In addition, he/she will be required to:
Undertake such other duties as may be identified to meet the needs of the service. Take part in 1:13 Consultant weekday night and weekend on-call and to provide, on a reciprocal basis, emergency cover for colleagues during periods of absence. Have continuing responsibility for patients in his/her care and for the proper functioning of the department. Take part in team and department audits. The post holder will be expected to partake in teaching activities for junior doctors in training and medical students.
The Job Plan and duties will be reviewed and updated on a regular basis in line with demands of the service.
Person Specification Qualifications Full GMC registration FRCA or equivalent Higher training in emergency/trauma anaesthesia Higher training in Vascular/Obstetrics/Paediatrics Experience All round clinical experience, knowledge, skills and training appropriate to a District General Hospital and equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST in Anaesthesia. UK anaesthetic experience Knowledge of IT Experience and commitment to teaching ALS/ATLS Audit & research A commitment to clinical audit and the ability to undertake/supervise a range of audit projects. An understanding of research Appropriate research/scientific publications. Management and governance An understanding of Clinical Governance and Clinical Effectiveness. A familiarity with issues of service organisation and development. Motivation and disposition Personal integrity A commitment to service development and to the flexibility to meet the changing needs of ULHT. Compliance with appraisal, job planning and revalidation.
A commitment to continuing professional development. Ability to be an effective team member/leader, and to relate effectively with professional colleagues. A willingness to share the workload of a small department.
