I4.0 Engineer

Details of the offer

Manage, design, co-ordinate and implement the installations of new I4.0 systems within Flowers Foods Bakeries.
Ensure sustainable integrity and stability of the I4.0 infrastructure and proactively recommend best practices within the I4.0 Arena.
Support and develop staff.
Manage, design and implement the installations of new Industry 4.0 (I4.0) systems within Flowers Foods according to company standards by the use of sound project management principles.
Manage and develop reliable integration of process signals to I4.0 systems.
Ensure effective change control management, testing and implementation (RC's) are followed.
Leveraging available systems and technologies to improve I4.0 system effectiveness.
Manage backups of critical I4.0 systems and ensure disaster recovery processes are sound and checked.
Assist with developing Artisans, Technicians and Senior Process Control Technicians by providing technical leadership and effective coaching in all aspects of control and automation.
Facilitate problem solving Standards enforcement & entrenchment.
Ensure adherence to quality and safety standards.

• In depth knowledge of developing and building and maintaining of batching systems.


• Good knowledge on motion control and advanced control systems.


• Understanding of correct procedures and regulations surrounding systems governance (change control, disaster recovery, back up procedures, documentation standards, installation standards, safety standards, HAZOPS).


• Flowers Food business knowledge and detailed manufacturing process knowledge an advantage.




• Familiarity with systems technology, including hardware and networking equipment.


• Good understanding of MES systems


• Good understanding of MES integration with the ability to develop and support all relevant MES integration requirements including to ERP


• Knowledge of quality assurance principles.


• Ability to install, configure and setup of field instrumentation, Field Networks, PLCs, HMIs and SCADA/MES technologies.


• Understanding of Control System Architecture (network architecture, Server Architecture, PLCs and workstations).


• In depth knowledge of control and automation standards and ability to interpret and implement best practices.


• In depth knowledge of sound development and project management practices.




Up to 75% travel to Virginia, Louisiana, North Carolina, and South Carolina.




Job Responsibilities




• Manage, design and implement changes to the I4.0 systems within Flowers Foods according to company standards.


• Support Chief Engineers in ensuring the integrity of I4.0 systems at all times


• Support and assist with the roll-out of company wide projects


• Coach, guide and assist with training of all production employees.
Assist with ensuring that the system architecture environment remains aligned with the company wide I4.0 system standards.


• Conduct in-depth risk analysis to assist with optimization of control systems and improving production output.


• Support business with resolving production issues by providing critical control knowledge and assistance where required.




Desired Experience




• Minimum 3 years' experience with Control and Automation & I4.0 systems.


• Good knowledge of instrumentation and control, configurations, fault finding and installation standards.


• Technical knowledge of Fieldbus technology and data communication systems.


• Expert knowledge and sound experience in PLCs (Siemens, Rockwell or OPTO 22), Inductive Automation Ignition and Canary Labs Historian.


• Knowledge and experience with Cloud Technologies (MS Azure preferred), Kubernetes, Python, MQTT, SQL, IIOT, .NET, JAVA, BI .




Desired Education




• Engineering degree in Electronic Engineering/Electrical/Mechatronic/Computer or equivalent qualification.
