Details of the offer

Immediately adjacent to the vibrant city of Chicago and housed within a modernized urban AZA accredited zoo with extensive community history, this ~650 animal, ~175 species population has hoofed animals, megavertebrates, marine mammals, carnivores, non-human primates, birds, herptiles, and limited fish and invertebrates. Fisher Director of Veterinary Services who is ACZM and ECZM board certified and Senior Associate Veterinarian who is ACZM board certified; supported by four certified veterinary technicians, a hospital keeper, and a pre-veterinary intern.
The Clinical Veterinarian is primarily responsible for veterinary procedures and records across this program. Competent autonomy is expected following on-boarding period, including support to shipment and quarantine procedures; controlled drug inventory compliance; and to act in a primary capacity with wildlife triage. License fees required for this position and conference or continuing education attendance to maintain these licenses will be supported as combination of financial support or administrative leave. Conference presentations or posters will be expected when these events are attended.
Applicants must hold a DVM/VMD from an AVMA-accredited program, or have a degree and examination combination that permits licensure in Illinois as required within ninety (90) days of hire. Federal accreditation in Illinois will be obtained once employment commences. Applicants should have minimally completed three (3) years of clinical experience with preference given to zoo, aquarium, wildlife, or zoological companion specialty practices; or approved internship or residency training in these specialties.
Screening interviews will be scheduled virtually then on-site interviews completed. Employment commencement date is desired by end of January 2025. It includes paid leave as personal time (32 hours/yr), holiday time (10 days), and accrued vacation time with seniority. A full suite of benefits is offered including: medical, dental, vision, life, accident and disability coverages as well as a retirement savings plan (403b) and match. Compensation range will be offered commensurate with experience and desired background for the position, starting at $88,000 for candidates that are ACZM board eligible within three (3) years, and starting at $93,000 for ACZM board certified candidates.
Application includes an application form, letter of intent, and C.V. with 3-5 professional reference contacts as posted to Hireology. Informational queries can be made to Kathryn C. Gamble DVM, MS, Dipl. ACZM, Dip. ECZM (ZHM) (******** ).
