The Literacy Specialist leads in the development and supports staff in the implementation of consistent, high-quality one-to-one and small group learning activities that promote increased literacy skills in kindergarten through third grade youth. In coordination with the Unit Director, the Literacy Specialist supports with the facilitation of academic enrichment programming that is evidence-based and culturally responsive, and which aligns with the needs and interests of Club youth. This is a grant-funded, part time, hourly position (approximately 20 hours per week). Funding is anticipated through June 2026.
Program Development and Implementation Under the general supervision of the Unit Director, identifies appropriate Boys & Girls Clubs of America and external literacy and learning programming initiatives and activities for implementation during the Academic Support (afterschool) and Summer programming sessions.Coordinate literacy curriculum with external support services and programs to maximize member outcomes.Support Youth Development Professionals with the implementation of literacy and learning-based programming.Implement and manage the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) assessment tool to monitor and track student progress. Ensure data is accurately recorded and analyze data recommend adjustments to program and report on outcomes.Establish and maintain relationships and communication with members and their families, providing resources and support to promote early learning progress at home.Actively promote literacy programs and initiatives to parents, guardians, and community groups.Assist in evaluating and selecting appropriate literacy materials and resources based on individual and group member academic needs.Contribute to continuous quality improvement by monitoring program achievement against targeted goals and make recommendations for modifications based on member needs.Ensure programming is culturally-responsive and inclusive. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree or four years' experience in Education, Teaching or related field preferred.Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating curriculumExperience with establishing and maintaining partnerships with community organizations and external resources.Experience integrating technology into educational programs and familiarity with school-based technology (Google Classroom or similar).Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Experience serving diverse and/or underserved populations.
