Nurse Practitioner/Pa, Emergency Department

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will be responsible for:The assessment and management of patients at all acuity levels with medical and/or surgical complaints.Working in collaboration with board certified pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) physicians, PEM fellows, emergency medicine and pediatrics residents, medical students, RNs, clinical assistants and others in the Emergency Department.Performing detailed histories and physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, and developing and executing a wide range of care plans using sound clinical reasoning and critical thinking.Engaging in consultations with subspecialty services to aid in patient care.Performing emergency medicine procedures (including laceration repairs, incision and drainage, lumbar punctures, joint relocations, splinting, removal of nasal/ear foreign bodies, local nerve anesthesia and blocks).
Developing discharge care plans with patients and families including prescribing medications and confirming primary care or specialty care follow-up.
Working to promote and encourage optimal and realistic patient goals.Communicating with patient and family in a respectful manner leading to compassionate and empathetic care.
Instructing and counseling patients regarding physical and mental health issues.Up to 39hrs per week, 9hr night shifts, Monday – Thursday (11:00pm – 8:00am) with occasional Friday night need.
No weekends.To qualify, you must have:A Master of Science in Nursing and certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner or Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies.Pediatric NP, Family NP or PA license required.1-2 years of NP or PA Emergency Department or Urgent Care experience required.Pediatric experience preferred.Boston Children's Hospital offers competitive compensation and unmatched benefits including flexible schedules, affordable health, vision and dental insurance, child care and student loan subsidies, generous levels of time off, 403(b) Retirement Savings plan, Pension, Tuition and certain License and Certification Reimbursement, cell phone plan discounts and discounted rates on T-passes.
