The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine is the third largest clinical department within the School of Medicine with 330 full-time faculty members, 460 courtesy faculty members, and over 350 staff.
Department faculty provide clinical services in 5 hospitals, 14 primary care locations, and several outpatient sites in addition to telepsychiatry consultations to more than 150 clinics in Washington and beyond.
As the only academic psychiatry department serving the five state WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho), the Department's highly competitive residency training program is largely responsible for developing the mental health workforce in the Pacific Northwest.
The Department's robust research portfolio totals $67 million in grants and contracts per year for projects ranging from clinical neurosciences to treatment development to health policy and population health.
The Department is recognized as an international leader in developing, testing, and implementing Collaborative Care, an integrated care model increasingly seen as a solution for population-based mental health care.
Other areas of excellence include Addictions, Autism, High Risk Youth, Neurosciences, and Trauma, and the Department is developing innovative new programs in Technology and Mental Health, Global Mental Health, Maternal and Child Mental Health, and Targeted Intervention Development.
Psychiatry is the third largest department in the School of Medicine and the largest non-divisioned department.
The overall annual operations funding from all sources is over $130 million.

The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine currently has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist.

This individual will report to Eric Bruns.

POSITION PURPOSE

This position will support multiple projects for which the purpose varies.
There is an Upcoming National Institute for Mental Health (NIMH) & Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant to develop and test a new text-based measurement and feedback system.
Multiple large statewide initiatives building and implementing CQI and evaluation plans focused on fidelity, satisfaction, and outcomes data collected through the WFAS tools and WrapStat.
Cleaning and analyzing WFAS data from the WrapStat database for quality control, to inform users of larger trends and relevant findings, and inform the larger academic community through publications and conference presentations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage multiple data collection efforts for collaborating agencies.
This includes analyzing data from multiple federally funded studies.

• Construct ground up data operating procedures, data cleaning, data analysis, and data presentations to internal and external sponsors.

• Conceptualize and develop new research study protocols for federal funders including methods and analytic plans.

• Prepare reports, graphs, tables, charts and illustrations for internal review, formative and summative reports to partners/funders, and presentations.

• Write up findings and contribute to manuscripts submitted to peer reviewed journals 15%.
• Translate evaluation and CQI data into research that produces generalizable knowledge for child service 10%.
• Monitor data quality and ongoing collection fidelity to ensure adherence to project protocol.
Annually update national means and psychometrics data for WFAS and other measures 5%.
• Regularly test WrapStat system functionality and data accuracy to ensure quality for users 5%.
• Work closely with other team members to assist with relevant data tasks, facilitate learning new skills, and help resolve emerging problems on different projects 5%.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's Degree in psychology or other social science, statistics, engineering or related field.
• 4 years work related experiences

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• PhD in related field.
Experience developing data procedures, protocols, benchmarks, and scoring materials.
• Experience writing proposals for conferences (poster, presentation, roundtable).
• Experience working on a large-scale clinical trial or evaluation project.
• Experience in social sciences and/or statistics.
• Experience with literature review software (e.g., Zotero, EndNote), data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R), and web-based survey platforms (e.g., Qualtrics, REDCap).
• Experience interacting with and/or basic understanding of database software.
• Experience with human subjects protections and preparing and guiding Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications
